About the colour: Flag of Venlo
The flag of Venlo dates from 1945 and consists of two horizontal planes, the upper one being red and the lower one blue. In 2010, after a municipal reorganization, a lion and an anchor were added. So unlike most city flags the flag of Venlo is quite new, but the two colors already have a long history within the city. They are for instance the colours of the Akkermansgilde, a guild of civic guards that has been around since the fifteenth century.
