In addition to cheese, candles and stroopwafels, Gouda is known for its so called 'Plateel' pottery. Gouda Plateel has its origins in Art Nouveau and Jugendstil ceramics from around 1900. It has a number of specific and distinctive features, like (abstracted) floral images and expressive use of colours.
