Ameland prints
About the colour: Frisian yellow brick
Ameland has been inhabited since the year 850. In the beginning there were houses made of wood, reed and plagues. Later, buildings on Ameland were often constructed with Frisian yellow bricks. The so-called commander's houses from the 17th and 18th centuries are beautiful examples of this. They were the homes of the wealthy captains of whaling. The yellow bricks, together with the red tiled roofs, give the streets of the Ameland villages their friendly, sunny appearance.
